Are you a student with a clear interest in health care technology, a ‘beta' or 'STEM' mindset, a curiosity towards the natural sciences and medical imaging, and ambition in research? Do you have a background in natural or physical sciences, e.g. physics, mathematics, computer science or more applied technical sciences like biomedical engineering? This Master’s programme might just be a perfect fit.
Exact science and cutting-edge technology in health care
The field of medical imaging is evolving rapidly, since diagnosis and treatment are increasingly supported by imaging procedures. The Medical Imaging Master’s programme combines elements from physics, mathematics, computer science, biomedical engineering, biology and clinical medicine. Master’s students will attain a high level of knowledge and skills in various areas of medical imaging, such as image acquisition physics, quantitative image analysis including artificial intelligence/deep learning, computer-aided diagnosis, and image-guided interventions.
A challenging programme
The programme is offered in close collaboration between the imaging division of the and (TU/e). Two leading organizations at the forefront of health care and technology. This collaboration tops a solid technological basis with strong links to research performed in a clinical setting.
The master's located inside a highly specialized hospital, and through the close cooperation with clinicians we can investigate how technology could provide added value to their workflow.

Study at UMC Utrecht
Students follow their Master’s programme at UMC Utrecht, one of the largest academic medical centers in the Netherlands. Imaging is a major of UMC Utrecht; selected students get educated by some of the best researchers in this field. Students get ample opportunities for excellent internships both at UMC Utrecht and with our international partners. They also have access to the large research infrastructure and research network of UMC Utrecht.
Medical Imaging is hosted by the Center for Image Sciences (CIS) of the UMC Utrecht and is directly linked to the PhD programme Medical Imaging: ImagO of the Graduate School of Life Sciences. Topics for research projects will be related to ongoing research of the CIS groups. During your project you will be supervised by PhD students, post-docs, and faculty members from our enthusiastic and international staff. Their research groups are renowned for their work in the field of medical imaging within a multidisciplinary setting. They publish widely in the most prestigious international journals.
Introducing the Graduate School of Life Sciences
Life Sciences is one of the four strategic themes of Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and is organised in the Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS). The GSLS brings together the research expertise and facilities of the faculties of Science, Medical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, in cooperation with . Research at the GSLS is highly interdisciplinary, because scientific breakthroughs take place where physics, medicine, chemistry and biology interact. The graduate school offers 15 Master’s programmes with each a different focus. As a school we also offer one course for all students. During your first week the GSLS will offer you a (mandatory) one week introduction for all students: Introducing Life Sciences (part of the course Life Sciences Academy).
