For students looking for an extra challenge in addition to their Master's, there are several options. 

Spring Performing Arts Festival

As a result of a long-term collaboration with the in Utrecht, students of the Media, Art and Performance Studies programme are offered each year a specially curated programme within the festival with meetings and workshops with artists, dinner with the festival organisers, and a party in addition to performances.

The programme also closely cooperates with the two main audiovisual archives in the Netherlands: the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and , which are both involved in , a big digitisation project of Dutch audiovisual heritage, and the network Open Culture Data.

Participate in ongoing research

You are invited to join the monthly research seminar of the Media, Art and Performance Research group and participate in ongoing research with PhD students and senior staff from the Department of Media and Cultural Studies, as well as colleagues from other places.

Students interested in urban mobile and location-based media and performance are also welcome to join the meetings of the research group . Other research groups that you can join are: , , , , , .

Moreover, senior researchers at the Department of Media and Cultural Studies are involved in a number of international research projects such as , , and . You can apply to participate in these projects on individual terms, or inquire about possibilities for research internships.

European Film and Media Studies

The research Master's programme offers students the opportunity to earn a tri-national Master’s degree in . This project is organised by Utrecht, the Bauhaus ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, Weimar, and Lumière ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Lyon 2.

Honouring your curiosity

Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ offers several honours programmes for students looking for an extra avenue to nurture their curiosity and foster their personal development. Honours education is followed on top of your regular Master’s programme. The UU Honours College offers 4 university-wide honours programmes.

In these interdisciplinary programmes, you can let your diverse interests run wild as you work on varying social and academic issues together with students from other disciplines. By analysing issues from different perspectives, you’ll learn how to navigate complex societal issues through a broader lens.
