Career prospects

During the Master’s programme, you will be challenged to determine which career perspective best fits your talents and interests. We will guide and support you to focus your programme on obtaining all the skills required for a certain career path.

Academic Careers

The Bioinformatics and Biocomplexity programme is a Research Master’s which is an ideal starting point for a career as a PhD student.

Non-academic careers

The career outlook for bioinformaticians is excellent. Currently, the demand outweighs the supply. At the same time, it is difficult to provide a single definition of the 'bioinformatician’. This area of expertise is diverse and interdisciplinary, and so are the job opportunities. According to the Researchcentrum voor Onderwijs en Arbeidsmarkt (ROA) the job market for bioinformatics is very good (Source: studiekeuze123.nl and ROA, 2019). Not only in the Netherlands, but also in Europe and even outside the EU, bioinformaticians are in high demand.

Career Day

Once a year Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ organises a . The Career Day offers the opportunity to sign up for workshops and trainings, and to meet recruiters at the careers fair. It’s also possible to join a job application training or have your resume checked.

Bring your knowledge to life in the classroom!

Do you want to inspire young people and do something that truly matters? Become a teacher by completing the one-year Leraar voorbereidend hoger onderwijs (LVHO) after your Master’s degree. You’ll be qualified to teach in all levels of secondary education (vmbo/havo/vwo), mbo and adult education. Please note that the programme is in Dutch.
