The 43rd Conference of the International Working Party on Labour Market Segmentation (IWPLMS) will take place at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ on 8-9 September 2025. This year's conference will explore how to strengthen labour market institutions and construct policies that can improve job quality, build inclusive labour markets, and develop genuine social market economies.

The  is dedicated to understanding the processes shaping inequality and segmentation in labour markets. It adopts a multi-disciplinary, dynamic and comparative institutional theoretical perspective in analysing change over time and differences across countries.

Topics

Papers for this conference could be submitted until 31 March; researchers were invited to contribute papers on the following topics of interest:

  • Job quality and working conditions
  • Non-standard employment and platform work
  • Segmentation from a social partner and firm-level perspective
  • Work-life balance and labour shortages
  • Migration and labour market inequalities
  • Other issues on processes shaping inequality and segmentation in labour markets

See the Call for Papers (pdf) for more information.

Exhibition: The Circle Redrawn, Women at Work

Tentoonstelling the circle redrawn

The conference also featured the exhibition "The Circle Redrawn, Women at Work." Gender equality in the workplace may seem self-evident. Yet, invisible barriers persist. Women still face inequalities that limit their careers, financial independence, and well-being. The exhibition "The Circle Redrawn, Women at Work" invites visitors to reflect on the role of women in both paid and unpaid work. How does this relate to well-being, caregiving responsibilities, and societal expectations?

The exhibition brings together (historical) images, current research findings, and personal quotes. It is a pop-up exhibition that can now be shown in new locations. Are you interested in displaying (part of) the exhibition and sparking conversation? Please send an email to the organisers.
