Interesting 2025 learning analytics events and resources

We hope you had a great start of the new year! We are excited to continue our work at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 (UU) on supporting Learning Analytics (LA) projects. We started the year with a webinar on student-facing dashboards (January 13) and will host three subsequent webinars throughout 2025. In the upcoming months we are wrapping up the evaluation of the Teacher dashboard project and we will be working on the F-ACT and DACE projects.

With new technologies, frameworks, and legislative changes (such as the AI-act), it鈥檚 crucial to stay informed and connected. Therefore, we will provide a list of interesting external LA events that you could attend and useful resources that you can consult. Whether you're an educator, researcher, or policymaker, this year鈥檚 events and resources will help you navigate the evolving world of LA!

Events in 2025

  • 3 鈥 7 March: The learning analytics & knowledge conference is the leading international event that brings together researchers and practitioners from all over the whole world. This year it will be hosted in Dublin, which makes it a relatively short trip for us Europeans. Whether you're an academic, an educator, or a tech enthusiast, LAK25 is the place to be for the newest insights into LA.
  • 6 June: . The Dutch national special interest group is hosting a session about evidence-based LA, with plenary talks and a poster session to provide you with inspiration. If you鈥檙e looking for ways to implement or improve LA in your institution, this is the event to go to.

If you would like to end the summer break with an interesting conference, two international events are (unfortunately) taking place at the same time at the end of August:

  • 23 鈥 29 August: . This conference is about all research related to learning sciences and includes many excellent talks about the role of technology in education, including LA. It is hosted in Graz.
  • 27 鈥 29 August: . Closer to home, in Utrecht, a conference with a similar focus as the EARLI takes place. The difference with EARLI is that EAIR is focused on higher education and includes a broader audience, namely researchers, practitioners, students, managers and policymakers.

Resources

  • and are (Dutch) podcasts that provide lectures from mostly practitioners about all aspects related to technology in education. Many of their episodes touch on themes directly connected to LA, such as privacy, ethical considerations, and the growing role of AI in education.
  • : In our own policy of LA at the UU we make use of the idea of LA as a closed loop, in which insights derived from data are used to improve education. An updated framework has recently been published by Michael Sailer and his colleagues. As stated in the abstract, the framework emphasizes 鈥渢he interplay between data collection, processing and analysis, as well as adaptivity and personalization, all connected by the involved learners involved and underpinned by educational and psychological theory鈥. It鈥檚 a valuable read for anyone exploring how to make LA more effective in educational settings.
  • , which is a completely different kind of resource (and perhaps less easy to read...). If your institution is working on preparing for this change, the tool developed by the VU Amsterdam may be worth checking out. Their helps to assess your knowledge about AI and provides actionable feedback.

Will you be attending any of the listed events, have other suggestions for interesting events, or do you have interesting resources to share, we鈥檇 love to hear from you via learninganalytics@uu.nl

Also, mark 7 April in your calendar as the date for our next webinar in which we will talk about all the interesting things we learned at LAK25.
