Welcome to the Learning Analytics community website! This community brings UU lecturers, researchers, students, and policymakers together around one central question: how can we use data to evaluate, improve, or innovate education? Through this community, we aim to contribute to future-proof education.

What do we do?

  1. We support projects that aim to apply insights from educational data in practice (implementation projects) and contribute to future-proof education.
  2. For researchers, we organize meetings focused on knowledge exchange.

1. Learning Analytics for future-proof education

We use insights from data to support students and staff in various areas:

  • Students might want to know how they can improve their writing skills.
  • Teachers are curious about when and how their course materials are being used.
  • Study advisors wonder what factors predict study delays.
  • Program directors may want insight into how students are progressing through the curriculum.

Due to the increasing digitization of education, students and teachers are leaving more and more digital traces, such as when students click on study materials, watch certain parts of a video, or submit assignments. All these interactions generate data. This data is a valuable source of information, but this information often remains unused.

With smart and careful analysis, we can use that data to understand, improve, and better tailor education to the needs of students. Our project team helps with this. With knowledge of data analysis, educational science, and ethics, we ensure the responsible use of educational data. In this way, we are working together to build stronger, more personalized, and future-proof education.

Starting your own LA implementation project at the UU

If you have an idea for an LA implementation project, reach out to the LA team via learninganalytics@uu.nl or look at the  for more information.

2. Learning Analytics and research

Our community aims to bring together different areas of expertise, both within and outside of research, and to encourage collaboration. We are one of the special interest groups (SIG) in the Applied Data Science focus area.

Insights from data are translated into dashboards with visualizations or innovations in educational design, for example. Related research helps to determine whether this indeed leads to the expected outcomes or improvements in practice. This often involves interdisciplinary research requiring expertise from different faculties of the 木瓜福利影视.

How does our team support researchers?

  • Our team supports you in all steps to use data responsibly for educational improvement. Whether you are just starting out with an idea or already working on a concrete project, we are happy to think along with you. Looking for inspiration? Take a look at our LA projects page, where you will find examples of ongoing and completed projects. We work together with researchers, lecturers, study advisors, etc.
  • We have developed a practical that guides you step by step in the use of educational data.
  • We help project leaders get in touch with researchers to evaluate their projects. We connect researchers so they can collaborate on things like grant applications. This allows us to gain insight into what works.
  • We regularly organize lunch meetings and events to inspire you and share knowledge. See the LA events page.
