The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Genetics Expertise Centre is achieving great results with research on this hereditary condition in dogs, also known as dilating cardiomyopathy.

The Genetics Expert Center of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has developed a unique breeding guidance platform for the Kooikerhondje.

Unfortunately, many pedigree dogs and cats struggle with hereditary diseases or suffer from harmful external features. In many cases, these diseases and disorders would be preventable.

Dobermanns suffer from liver inflammation (hepatitis) and the heart muscle disease DCM (dilating cardiomyopathy) more often than other dog breeds.

Researchers from Utrecht ľ�ϸ���Ӱ�� and UMC Utrecht have received a grant of 936,587 euros from the ZonMw, for research into a serious heart condition that affects both humans and dogs.

“De basis van ‘stress free handling’ of diervriendelijk hanteren is dat je goed kijkt naar het gedrag en de reacties van het dier bij een bezoek”, zegt gedragsbioloog Claudia Vinke van de faculteit Diergeneeskunde (Universiteit Utrecht).
