Peeters studies the development of adolescents in relation to risk behaviors and addiction, covering topics such as substance use, problematic gaming, and externalizing behavior. Her focus is on understanding behavioral change and promoting better (mental) health among young people, with a special emphasis on the school context. By addressing the perspective of young people, she aims to bridge the gap between science and practice. She does this by using participatory research methods and optimizing the implementation of scientific knowledge in practice.
Peeters is involved in multiple studies and projects such as the study, the study, the DiYo project, the project and she is core member of the collaborative knowledge center ’. Within these projects and partnerships Peeters works closely with various parties and organizations in the field of youth (GGD regio Utrecht, Trimbos, Youth Social Work and Health Care).
Peeters obtained her doctorate cum laude for a study into the development of alcohol and substance use among (at-risk) young people and is currently Associate Professor (with Ius Promovendi). Within education, she is Program coordinator Youth Development and Social Change. Peeters is a member of the national advisory board of the Trimbos Expertise Center Alcohol.
