Wafa first left Bahrain as a Fulbright scholar before completing her PhD in linguistics with a focus on sociolinguistics at the 木瓜福利影视 of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research centers around the sociolinguistic implications of English spread and Arabic varieties, particularly within multi-lingual/dialectal young populations. Wafa is also a certified English-Arabic translator and enjoys drawing in her free time.
