Vahid is a researcher in Environmental Hydrogeology with expertise in environmental transport processes. His PhD research focuses on understanding reactive colloid transport and two-phase flow dynamics in porous media. By integrating numerical simulations with experimental approaches, he addresses key challenges in subsurface flow, with implications for environmental and industrial applications. His research explores the behavior of colloidal particles鈥攁 broad class of materials, including synthetic colloids (e.g., microplastics and engineered nanomaterials) and natural colloids (e.g., mineral particles, bacteria, and viruses)鈥攖hat influence contaminant transport, filtration, and remediation processes.

Research Interests

Vahid employs multi-scale and multi-disciplinary approaches that combine microscopic experimental observations with numerical methods to investigate flow and reactive transport processes in porous media. Using the state-of-the-art computational and experimental facilities in the , including microfluidic experiments, numerical modeling, and advanced imaging techniques, his research spans multiple scales鈥攆rom pore-scale dynamics to their implications at the column and field scales. By applying his geo-driven knowledge in an interdisciplinary manner, Vahid aims to broaden the impact of his work and address complex subsurface flow challenges.

Key Topics Include:

  • Two-phase flow in porous media.
  • Colloid and solute transport in porous media.
  • Computational and numerical studies: Pore-network models and continuum-scale approaches.
  • Microfluidic design and flow visualization in porous materials.
  • Soil and groundwater remediation techniques.
  • Flow and transport processes in industrial porous media.
