Salomé Lopes Coelho is a researcher in film and art studies, working at the intersections of cinema, aesthetics, and the environmental humanities. She is a Postdoctoral Researcher on the ERC project EcoViolence at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ. Her research focuses on how contemporary cinema constructs the memory of large-scale mining as a form of ecological violence, foregrounding responsibility within extractive economies and tracing their entanglements with other histories of violence.

Salomé holds a PhD in Artistic Studies–Art and Mediations from NOVA ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Lisbon (FCT Fellowship, 2021) and was a postdoctoral fellow at the NOVA Institute of Communication (2022–2025), where she researched the rhythms of vegetal and inorganic materialities in contemporary Latin American experimental cinema, with a focus on women filmmakers and artists, drawing on environmental aesthetics and feminist posthumanist philosophies.

She was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences at the same university (2025) and has taught courses on cinema and philosophy at the National ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Arts in Buenos Aires (2018, 2021), where she also was a visiting researcher (2016). She is a member of the Eco- and Bioart Lab at Linköping ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ in Sweden and serves on the editorial board of La Furia Umana–Journal of History and Theory of Cinema.
