Niels Bosma is full professor Social Entrepreneurship and Head of Department with Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ School of Economics, and member of the programme team with Institutions for Open Societies. He holds a PhD in Economic Geography, obtained at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and an MSc degree in Econometrics (ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of Groningen). Before moving to Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Niels was affiliated to London Business School, EIM Business and Policy Research (now part of the Panteia group), Erasmus ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Rotterdam and the Tinbergen Institute.
Niels is particularly interested in individuals’ entrepreneurial and innovative behaviour in regional and social contexts and has several publications in leading academic journals. He is also cofounder and coordinator of the Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ Social Entrepreneurship Initiative and was a member of GECES, an expert group advising the European Commission on activities related to the Social Business Initiative.
Niels is currrently Member of the Board of Directors and Senior Research Advisor with the (GEM). He has also been GEM's research director and has co-authored various GEM Global Reports between 2006 and 2021.
