Nelleke has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the unit of Farm Animal Health since 2018. Here, she is dedicated to teaching both bachelor's and master's programs. In the bachelor's program, Nelleke's responsibilities primarily involve delivering substantive lectures and clinical education (Veterinary Clinical Reasoning and practical training related to clinical examination of cattle). Additionally, Nelleke also participates in the Honours Program as a supervisor for various groups of bachelor students. In the master's program, her activities focus on (advanced) clinical education, including clinic-based education and basiscoschap education.

A remarkable show of appreciation was her nomination for the 2020 Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Teacher Talent Award and her win of the Honours Teacher of the Year Award 2020 from the 木瓜福利影视 of Utrecht. With the Honours Teacher of the Year Award, the university recognizes and celebrates the achievements of its honors teachers. Each year, one of these honors teachers receives this award during the Opening of the Academic Honors Year. The teachers are nominated by honors students from various faculties and programs. The veterinary students who nominated Nelleke for this award explained that she constantly challenged her students to come up with alternative approaches rather than simply following conventional methods. She also always guided her students in seeking answers rather than providing answers themselves. The jury, consisting of the Honors Dean, faculty honors directors, and honors students, stated that Veenema supported her students when needed but also gave them a lot of autonomy to develop themselves. She continuously challenged and encouraged them, both online and offline. Click here for the full article.

In 2022, Nelleke started a PhD program with Daniela Salvatori, Harold Bok and Beerend Hierck as supervisors. The research will focus on educational research in the field of Veterinary Medicine, with the overarching topic being veterinary clinical skills and a veterinary skills lab.
