Mirelle Kleuskens is a postdoctoral researcher specializing in eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases, with a particular focus on eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). This chronic allergic disorder of the esophagus has a rapidly growing incidence but unclear origins, and profoundly impairs quality of life. Her work seeks to bridge the gap between bench and bedside by translating molecular and cellular discoveries into clinically actionable strategies. Positioned at the intersection of fundamental immunology and clinical innovation, her research contributes to a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms while advancing therapeutic development.

Mirelle obtained her BSc and MSc degree from Wageningen 木瓜福利影视. In 2024, she completed her PhD at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 in close collaboration with Amsterdam UMC, where she investigated local immune responses in EoE. Her work led to key discoveries about the esophageal epithelial barrier, and the mechanisms by which food allergens drive inflammation in EoE. In addition, she developed advanced in vitro and ex vivo models, which are now used in multiple industry collaborations for pharmacological studies. She leads and contributes to international research collaborations, supervises PhD, MSc and BSc students, and serves on the boards of the European Society of Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EUREOS) and the International Eosinophil Society (IES).
