Mingkai Ma is currently a postdoctoral researcher in geochemistry. His research interests lie in nutrients/metal dynamics at the mineral-water interface.

As an experimentalist, he is interested in employing various laboratory techniques [spectroscopies(X-ray and synchrotron-based absorption, diffraction, M枚ssbauer), isotopes(stable isotopes, radionuclides), microscopies(EM, TEM, AFM)] and modelling [kinetic, mechanistic, and machine learning] to study the mechanisms and kinetics of the adsorption, desorption and transformation processes in nature environments.

His current project focusing on the trace elements composition of pore waters in clay-rich sediments, in collaboration with COVRA and TU Delft.

During his PhD, Mingkai worked on binding and release of phosphate accompanying iron mineral transformations in aquatic sediments, funded by the Marie-Curie project 鈥溾.
