Marlot Kuiper is assistant professor of Public Management.
Her academic background is in Public Administration and Organizational Science (RESMA), and she obtained her PhD from Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, where she studied how (healthcare) professionals work with standards like (safety) checklists in everyday practice. Her work sheds light on the challenges professionals face in implementing these tools in practice, especially in a healthcare context shaped by increasing complexity, transparency demands, and organizational pressures.
In her current work, Marlot predominantly focuses on the reconfiguration of (frontline) professional work. Societal and technological developments鈥攕uch as increasing diversity, growing institutional turbulence, and the rise of artificial intelligence鈥攔aise fundamental questions about the meaning of professionalism today. These dynamics challenge traditional roles, routines, and accountability structures in the public domain. Marlot studies how professionals navigate these changes in practice, and how their work can be organized to ensure responsive, flexible services and sustainable societal outcomes. Her research contributes to broader debates on robust governance and the adaptive capacity of public institutions. She now works in interdisciplinary teams of researchers from multiple universities aiming to build practical knowledge and capacity for societal resilience, such as ADAPT! and Robust.
Marlot teaches several courses on (predominantly) master- and executive level. She is the coordinator of the Master鈥檚 track Public Management. In addition, Marlot is active as academic consultant, advising public organizations on i.e. professional development and organizational change. In 2023, she was a member of the Visitatiecommissie Rechtspraak, which reviewed the quality and functioning of the Dutch judiciary.
