“My research focuses on better predicting whether treatment is beneficial for patients with colorectal cancer.”

Research focus: medical oncology and colorectal cancer

Miriam Koopman is professor of Medical Oncology at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 and internist-oncologist with a focus on colorectal cancer at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Medical Centre. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in the world and unfortunately many patients still die from this disease. Current treatments include surgery, radiotherapy and systemic therapy with medications such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Her research is aimed at improving the time and quality of life of patients with colorectal cancer. One of the ways she does this is by looking for better predictive factors for the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer. To this end, she was involved in the various CAIRO studies on metastasized colon cancer, the results of which have been included in (inter)national guidelines, and in the development of the for patients with the aim of 'making better choices together'.

Miriam is chair of the Dutch Colorectal Cancer Group (DCCG) and one of the initiators of the Prospective National CRC cohort (PLCRC). Within this cohort as many hospitals and disciplines as possible work together on . Patients with all stages of colorectal cancer are asked for permission to use their data, tissue, blood and questionnaires for scientific research with the ultimate aim of a therapy tailored to each patient.
