His teaching experience includes interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental sociology, political ecology, and Latin American sociology, and he is past director of the Institute of Strategic Studies on Human Development in Chile.

Martin is currently leading the research project SKYJUST - Just Transitions for Sustainable Astronomy, funded by HORIZON Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, under the supervision of Dr. Xiao-Shan Yap, pioneer in Earth-Space sustainability and assistant professor at Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. SKYJUST aims to fill the gap on how scientific agencies are adopting transitions policies in their Research Infrastructures (RIs). The project examines the cases of intergovernmental astronomical agencies with strong European participation, the European Southern Observatory (ESO), the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) and the Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) with several large-scale RIs in the Global South.

A passionate advocate for the conservation and regeneration of native ecosystems, Martin has been awarded the Environmental Prize by the Chilean environmental agency and his work promoting citizen science and social innovation in environmental governance has been also recognised by local communities and grassroot organizations.
