I investigate how macroplastic is transported in the ocean. In our team we perform Lagrangian analysis (using OceanParcels) to study transport. I focus on developing parameterizations for processes relevant for macroplastics that are not captured by (large scale) ocean models and/or the point particle representation of the particles in the Lagrangian simulations.
I am an computational physicist by training and enjoy using simulations to better understand the relevant physical processes of real systems. In my PhD I used numerical modelling to study the reorientation process of bundled mucus strands in the lungs.
