Marianna Capasso is a philosopher and AI ethicist, currently serving as the lead of the Cross-Cultural AI Ethics Cluster of the at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. In recognition of her contributions to the field, Marianna was recently named by Women in AI Ethics.
Her research expertise lies at the intersection of ethics of technology and political philosophy, with a particular focus on justice, discrimination, and human freedom and responsibility in AI. On these topics, Marianna has published extensively in leading journals such as Philosophy & Technology; Minds and Machines; AI & Society; International Journal of Social Robotics; Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy; Frontiers in Robotics and AI; Business and Human Rights Journal; among others.
Her academic background includes postdoctoral positions at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, Erasmus 木瓜福利影视 Rotterdam, and Sant鈥橝nna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa. Marianna contributed to the digital ethics teams of two major EU-funded projects: ) and . These roles highlight her ability to bridge her philosophy of technology expertise with applied, policy-relevant research, engaging diverse partners across academia, industry, NGOs, and civil society.
At Sant'Anna, she obtained her PhD cum laude in Human Rights and Global Politics with a dissertation on the social dimensions of freedom and control in AI. During her PhD, she spent a period as a visiting researcher at the section Ethics/Philosophy of Technology of TU Delft. Marianna holds a MA in Philosophy from the 木瓜福利影视 of Pisa and a Honours Diploma in Philosophy from the Scuola Normale Superiore.
