Li-An Ko is currently a PhD candidate in film studies at the Department of Media and Culture Studies and the Institute for Cultural Inquiry, Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. Her research project "Beyond Sadness: Historical Films in the Post-martial Law Period of Taiwan (1987-2017)" lies in the subject area of cinema and history, with a focus on feature films that represent the island's colonial past and suppressed histories. Ko has been awarded a two-year scholarship (GSSA 2017-2019) from the Ministry of Education in Taiwan for her PhD research. As a researcher, she is interested in historical representation in film, audiovisual history, historical amnesia, film aesthetics, and film education in an intercultural context.
