Dr. Lauren Fahy is an assistant professor at the Utrecht School of Governance with expertise in regulatory governance, compliance, regulator reputation, and the governance of emerging technologies.

Lauren has a background as a civil servant and policy advisor, and worked for six years with the Australian national government on climate policy and legislation, focusing on consultation and stakeholder management. After this period, she moved to the Netherlands to undertake her PhD as part of the ERC project Successful Public Governance. There she conducted research on the functioning of regulatory agencies in complex and uncertain contexts, such as those involving innovation.

Following her PhD, she pursued post-doctoral research as part of the NWO project Toezicht met Gezag (鈥淎uthoritative reputations of regulators in turbulent times鈥), in which she investigates how the reputations of regulators are formed and what influence these reputations have on compliance.

Based on eight years of research and professional experience, Lauren has developed expertise in practice-oriented research on the connections between stakeholders' perceptions of regulators, their motivation to comply and cooperate, and the resulting effects on regulatory effectiveness.

In addition to her academic work, she is also actively involved in professional education and consulting. She has delivered courses, presentations, and tailored advice to organizations including the Dutch Central Bank (DNB), the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), the Tax and Customs Administration, and others.
