Dr. Johan Stanley obtained his Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from Pondicherry Engineering College, Pondicherry 木瓜福利影视 (India). He completed a Master of Technology in Polymer Science and Engineering at the College of Engineering Guindy, Anna 木瓜福利影视 (India), where his thesis focused on the development and characterization of biocomposite coatings for coated abrasive applications. This work marked the beginning of his engagement with sustainable materials and functional polymer systems.
He began his doctoral studies in Polymer Chemistry at Aristotle 木瓜福利影视 of Thessaloniki (Greece) under the framework of the Marie Sk艂odowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (FoodTraNet), which he completed with distinction in 2025. His doctoral studies were focused on the synthesis of poly(ethylene furanoate) (PEF), its nanocomposites with inorganic nanoparticles, and PEF鈥損oly (蔚-caprolactone) block copolymers. The project aimed to create materials with improved antimicrobial activity, barrier performance, and flexibility for food packaging applications. His work combined melt polycondensation, solid-state polymerization, and ring-opening polymerization methods to produce high-performance, bio-based polymers.
During his PhD, Dr. Johan Stanley completed secondments at the 木瓜福利影视 of Maribor (Slovenia), Maastricht 木瓜福利影视 (Netherlands), and Hatzopoulos S.A. (Greece). At the 木瓜福利影视 of Maribor, he worked on antimicrobial analysis, polymer extrusion, and surface characterization using ToF-SIMS. At Maastricht 木瓜福利影视鈥檚 M4i Institute, he applied MALDI mass spectrometry imaging to characterize polymer structures. His industrial training at Hatzopoulos S.A. involved the scale-up and processing of bio-based packaging materials.
Before his doctoral studies, he served as a Research Associate at ITC Ltd. (India), where he led efforts to develop biodegradable and recyclable coatings for paper-based packaging applications, enhancing water, oil, and oxygen barrier properties and integrating antimicrobial agents for shelf-life extension.
He has published several research articles in international journals, including Polymers, Molecules, Materials, Polymer Testing, and Composite Communications, and holds an Indian patent for a biodegradable barrier coating material. His research has been presented at scientific meetings such as Polymers 2024, ICTAC 2024, and the FUR4Sustain Final Conference.
Dr. Johan Stanley has joined Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Sustainable and Circular Chemistry, within the Organic Chemistry and Catalysis group. His current work focuses on the design, synthesis, and end-of-life study of biobased and biodegradable polymers, to develop circular solutions for advanced material applications.
