Water Quality-Sustainable Water Systems

I am a PhD working on the ERC-funded project Balancing clean Water and Energy provision under changing climate and eXtremes (B-WEX). This project focuses on the water-energy nexus under climate extremes, and my research specially explores the impacts of droughts and heatwaves on water-dependent energy technologies.

I completed my Master鈥檚 in Environmental Resource Management, with a focus on hydrology, at Brandenburg Technical 木瓜福利影视 (BTU), Cottbus, Germany. My thesis was carried out at the UFZ Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, where I studied flash droughts鈥攔apidly developing drought events鈥攖heir changing occurrence over the past 70 years across Europe. Following my graduation, I worked as independent researcher at UFZ, where I continued to work on flash droughts, focusing antecedent conditions of flash drought across Europe. During this period, I developed a strong interest in hydro-meteorological extremes such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves, as well as compound events like concurrent droughts and heatwaves, and their sectoral impacts. I also gained experience in working with large-scale, complex datasets using High Performance Computing (HPC), programming languages, and machine learning techniques.

In my PhD, I focus on how freshwater-dependent energy technologies鈥攕uch as hydropower, thermoelectric power, concentrated solar power, and biofuel production鈥攔espond to climate extremes. I will also explore water use in energy sector and its exposure to droughts and heatwaves under various future decarbonization pathways.
