Hanna Surma is Associate Professor in Media Studies in the Department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. She received her Ph.D. (summa cum laude) in Media Studies from Ruhr-Universit盲t Bochum, Germany.
Hanna鈥檚 research interests include streaming video, media industry studies, and production cultures; television theory; video culture; television genres and reality TV. Among her publications are articles on streaming video, reality television/self media and a forthcoming monograph on Medien des Selbst: First Person Videos im Life-Intervention Fernsehen.
In her current research, Hanna investigates screen media production practices and uses of viewing data in the Dutch streaming industry. She is Co-PI of the Special Interest Group (SIG) Streaming Video and member of
Hanna is coordinator of the Faculty of Humanities' UTQ-Training Program. In 2024, she successfully completed the UU Educational Leadership Program. She teaches and coordinates courses and supervises theses on television theory, television genres and streaming video, as well as on research methods in the master's program Film and Television Cultures and the BA Media en cultuur/Media and Culture.
