Daan Bossuyt is Assistant Professor of Spatial Planning at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning. His research focuses on the relationship between politics and urban development. His interests include sustainability, various forms of housing, and land use and housing policy.
He completed his PhD at the 木瓜福利影视 of Amsterdam on self-build housing. Previously, he was involved as a PhD researcher in the BESEFOGO project of NWO, which focuses on sustainable urban development through self-build initiatives in the Netherlands and Brazil. After that, Daan worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Management in the Built Environment at TU Delft. He has conducted research in the Netherlands, Sweden, and Brazil. His work has been published in academic journals such as Environment and Planning C, Housing Theory and Society, Land Use Policy, and Housing Studies. Currently, he leads a project on the role of digital platforms in Amsterdam's housing market together with Meghan Flood, Carl Bonner-Thompson and Edwin Buitelaar.
Daan coordinates the Planning Studio, a practice-oriented course for second-year students. In this 'community engaged learning' course, students work together with municipalities and local organizations on concrete spatial planning assignments. Recently, student teams have carried out projects in Zwolle (2023), Rotterdam (2024), and The Hague (2025).
