Caia Vlieks is assistant professor of constitutional law at Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and connected to the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice. She is also a fellow at the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) and a member for the core team of the Research Platform on Migration Law (MiLa). 

Caia defended her dissertation on nationality and statelessness in Europe in June 2022 at Tilburg ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ, obtaining her PhD. She holds a master in legal research (cum laude) and in international and European public law (cum laude) from the same university.

Until her PhD defense, Caia worked at Tilburg ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ as lecturer and researcher. She combined this role with the position of programme lead at the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion (2020-2023) and an appointment as associate tutor at the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ of London (2018-2021). 

Caia is interested in legal questions around nationality, citizenship, fundamental rights and statelessness in particular.
