Annemeik Schlatmann is the project coordinator of the research project 'Religious Matters in an Entangled World' and a lecturer in Islamic Studies. She is also the coordinator of the project Omstreden Zaken, a website featuring lesson modules based on the research findings of the Religious Matters project, specifically developed for secondary education teachers.
Annemeik studied Arabic Language and Cultures of the Middle East (2007, cum laude) and conducted doctoral research on the influence of Shiite religious regulations on the religious practices and social lives of young Shiite Muslims in the Netherlands. She earned her PhD in 2016. Her dissertation is titled 'Shi'i Muslim Youth in the Netherlands: Negotiating Shi'i Fatwas and Rituals in the Dutch Context.'
