Thijs Jeursen is an Assistant Professor of Conflict Studies and project leader in research on the ecological impact of warfare.

Bringing together perspectives from conflict studies and the environmental humanities, his work examines how armed conflicts affect the environment before, during, and after hostilities. He is currently involved in two major research projects: Green Frontlines, which investigates the often-overlooked intersections between military activities and ecological conditions, and Warfare Ecologies, which addresses critical gaps in knowledge, accountability, and resistance concerning the ecological consequences of war. The latter combines remote sensing, interdisciplinary research, and community collaboration to document ecological harm, advance justice, and imagine sustainable, post-conflict futures.

Beyond his research, Thijs coordinates the Contesting Governance platform, the Conflict and the Environment Research Lab, and the Climate and the Imagination community, and teaches in the Global Justice Investigations Lab.
