Dr. Myrna de Rooij works as an Assistant Professor at the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. She is a dedicated researcher and educator who thrives on delving into the intricate connections between human, animal, and environmental health; One Health. She has a strong academic foundation in Veterinary Medicine and Epidemiology, she obtained her PhD in 2019. Her career objective is to contribute to a future with better health for our population, animals, and the environment. 

Currently, she focuses on advancing environmental sampling and analysis techniques for effective monitoring of pathogens at farms to enhance outbreak prevention and control. Through multi-disciplinary collaborations, she is developing new technologies in air sampling approaches. This will enable broad screening of microorganisms as well as targeted detection of specific zoonotic pathogens of concern. Another main research interest of her, lies in effects of livestock farming on public health. One of her major research programs is a large-scale long-running study on agricultural air pollution and respiratory health, zoonotic infections, and antimicrobial resistance in rural communities in the Netherlands. Her contributions to research on epidemics and the role of environmental transmission started in the past with the largest ever epidemic of Q fever which occurred in the Netherlands. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she contributed to several studies on SARS-CoV-2 transmission and epidemiology. Recently, she is involved in innovative and applied research characterizing transmission of highly pathogenic avian influenza. 

Her qualifications include a PhD in Exposure Science, MSc in Veterinary Medicine, MSc in Epidemiology, and she is a registered senior epidemiologist. She is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health and a KNMvD registered Specialist in Veterinary Public Health. Her academic path reflects her commitment to learning and research, and she is enthusiastic about sharing her expertise.

In her current role as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Myrna de Rooij has the privilege of not only conducting impactful research but also nurturing the next generation of One Health professionals.
