Lan Nguyen is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 School of Law, Department International and European Law. She currently teaches courses in public international Law, law of the sea and dispute settlement. She is also a Senior Research Associate of the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea and a member of the Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 Centre for Water, Ocean and Sustainability Law. 

Before joining Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, Lan worked at theDiplomatic Academy of Vietnam and served as an intern at the Legal Office of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

Lan holds a B.A in International Relations (summa cum laude) from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, and an LL.M in International Law (First Class Honours) from the 木瓜福利影视 of Cambridge, for which she was awarded the Clive Parry (Overseas) Prize for International Law. She obtained her PhD also from the 木瓜福利影视 of Cambridge. 

Lan鈥檚 research interests lie in public international law, law of the sea, settlement of international disputes and the management and resolution of maritime disputes in Asia. 

Lan is the author of the monograph 'The Development of the UNCLOS by Dispute Settlement Bodies' (CUP 2023), and has published widely on issues relating to law of the sea and dispute settlement. 

From 2025 to 2028, Lan is the recipient of the Dutch Research Council (NWO) VENI Talent Grant for her project 鈥Dispute settlement in areas beyond national jurisdiction: is there a pathway to sustainability and equity?鈥 which investigate how international legal institutions could and should resolve disputes arising from profit-oriented activities in marine areas beyond national jurisdiction in a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable way.
