I am a cross-cultural researcher with a particular focus on loneliness, causes for feeling lonely, chronic versus transient loneliness, and not fitting in with social/cultural norms. I have worked with both quantitative and qualitative methods, but currently mainly work qualitatively or I develop new theorising. Additionally, I have used video clips to communicate research results to non-academic audiences (visit to listen to people's personal stories from five different countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe), and am currently working on a podcast to inform more people about loneliness.
A personal note: For some of my research, I analysed data that we collected in Israel in 2019. This is not to say that I agree with Israeli politics. I strongly oppose the discrimination and violence against Palestinians by the Israeli state. My good thoughts are currently with the Palestinian people, while I hope for justice and a peaceful life for everyone. Indeed, I am very grateful to my Israeli participants and collaborator for their time, openness and willingness to share their experiences in this research. Getting to know you has been a true pleasure and I sincerely appreciate and admire whoever I got to know better.
