Janneke den Dekker is a PhD Candidate in the spatial planning section of the Geosciences Faculty. Her expertise is in climate adaptation, planning, and governance from a justice-oriented and decolonial perspective. Her research explores nature-based solutions critically and with an action orientation to derive scenarios for the future in Curaçao, Puerto Rico, and Barbados. As a Saint Lucian-Dutch scholar, Janneke's work is deeply rooted in place, drawing inspiration from her professional training as an environmental scientist and her background, having grown up in Saint Lucia. She integrates these perspectives in her research and is passionate about creating more inclusive cities and urban areas. Through her research and collaborative projects, She advocates that implementing nature-based solutions should promote social justice and equity.
