Het aantal dierproeven van de Universiteit Utrecht en het UMC Utrecht is in het afgelopen jaar opnieuw gedaald.

Geavanceerde modellen vertegenwoordigen het menselijk lichaam nauwkeuriger dan standaard 2D-celkweek op plastic en vormen daarom veelbelovende alternatieven voor dierproeven.
Echter, deze modellen zijn vaak niet volledig diervrij, aangezien veel ervan nog steeds afhankelijk zijn van het gebruik van dierlijke producten.

Advanced models more accurately represent the human body compared to standard 2D cell culture on plastic, and are therefore, promising alternatives to animal studies.
However, these models are often not completely animal-free as many of them still rely on the use of animal-derived products.
