Ulrich Rothbauer - invited speaker sdAb 2025

Biography

Ulrich Rothbauer is Professor of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the 木瓜福利影视 of T眉bingen. Over the past two decades he has pioneered the development and use of nanobodies for proteomics, high-resolution microscopy, and in vivo imaging.

His current research focuses on (i) the development of chromobodies鈥攆luorescent biosensors based on nanobodies鈥攖hat enable real-time visualization and quantification of endogenous proteins in living cells and (ii) the engineering and functionalization of nanobodies as novel theranostics for diagnostic (pre)clinical PET/MRI imaging and functional modulation of immune cells in the context of tumor-related immunotherapies. His vision is to bridge the gap between cell biology and translational approaches, thereby developing new strategies for phenotypic screening, in vivo diagnostics, and targeted therapy.

Dr. Rothbauer has also been involved in translating nanobody technologies into practical applications and is the founder of ChromoTek GmbH (now part of Proteintech), a biotech company specializing in nanobody-based research reagents.
