- Applied Veterinary Research
The overall aim of the AVM program is to maintain the broad spectrum of veterinary specializations at FVM at a high level, by supporting research training of residents, as well as providing research time for the maintenance of the board certification of the permanent staff.

Our aim is to understand and predict natural and human-induced dynamics of living fluvial and coastal landscapes.

We also educate, stimulate, and train the next generation of researchers and caregivers.
The Strategic Program Cancer is UMC Utrecht’s world-leading platform for cancer research and innovation. We focus on improving the outcome of (ex-)cancer patients, and those at risk of getting cancer.
The Child Health Program is an integrated framework for child-centered interdisciplinary research, aligning patients, clinicians, researchers and resources in order to fill gaps to improve the lives of children with complex chronic diseases, during childhood and thereafter.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide for both men and women. To address this challenge, the strategic program Circulatory Health creates scientific and societal impact by bringing together cardiovascular researchers, clinicians, and educators.
- Computational geography and earth observation
Earth observation from satellites and other platforms (aircrafts, drones) is crucial for our understanding of System Earth and to monitor processes at the Earth surface.
/en/research/department-of-physical-geography/research/computational-geography-and-earth-observation - Department of Physical Geography
Our research is directed to understanding the physical processes, patterns, and forms at the Earth's terrestrial surface.
/en/research/department-of-physical-geography - Evolution and morphodynamics of rivers, floodplains and deltas
Our Delta Evolution programme aims to develop a fundamental, data-driven understanding of the development of deltas and resulting subsurface architecture at time scales of millennia to centuries.

The overall aim of the Biology of Reproductive Cells (BRC) program is to provide answers to problems affecting or arising from reproduction in domestic animal species and man (one health, one medicine) by improving understanding of the mechanisms involved in gamete development, fertilization and embryogenesis, and by improving gamete/embryo storage.Â

The GeoLab is the main laboratory facility of the Faculty of Geosciences. We have a wide range of lab facilities available for measuring bulk rock geochemistry, bulk rock stable isotopes (H, C, N, S), in situ stable and radiogenic isotopes (U,Pb-dating), in situ major and trace elements and crystallography.
/en/organisation/faculty-of-geosciences/research-facilities/geolab The Strategic Program Infection & Immunity is a leading platform in the field of inflammatory and infectious diseases and immune-mediated therapy. We continuously focus on developing and improving the treatment of patients with difficult-to-manage infections, immune diseases or cancer.
In Utrecht, we try to unravel the mechanisms behind infection and immunity.
The Julius Center is a knowledge center for Health Sciences and Primary Care. Together with our colleagues of UMC Utrecht, we work hard to improve patient care. We conduct multidisciplinary scientific research into new diagnosis and treatment methods.
- Landscape functioning and natural hazards
Our group focuses on studying natural hazards processes: including landslides and soil erosion in mountainous areas in the Alps and the Himalayas, and wind erosion and droughts in semi-arid environments like the Mediterranean region and the Sahara. The results of our studies and the outcome of our models helps society to mitigate the negative impacts of hazards.

Palaeoecology studies past environmental dynamics by means of palaeo-reconstructions combined with experiments and observations to understand past and present behavior of biota in relation to humans, climate and natural competition.
/en/research/department-of-earth-sciences/paleoclimate-biogeology Utrecht is home to Regenerative Medicine Utrecht (RMU), a world-renowned collaboration of excellent knowledge institutes and start-ups. At RMU, we are continuously working on and developing cutting edge technologies and principles that can cure patients.
This growing field converges biomedical research, innovative technology and patient care.
The research groups within the Faculty of Medicine are to be found on the website of UMC Utrecht.
- Risk Assessment
The overall aim of the Risk Assessment of Toxic and Immuno-modulatory Agents (RATIA) program is to improve the scientific basis for assessment of risk to humans, animals, and ecosystems from exposure to potentially harmful agents in the environment, in occupational settings, through vaccination, and through the food chain.

This research theme aims to unravel system Earth for a sustainable future.
/en/research/sustainability - Water Climate and Future Deltas
This research area focuses on dealing with problems related to subsidence and associated loss of ecosystem services.
