Practical: First Year Project Within The NMR Research Group
In this project, "NMR spectroscopy", the student will learn modern aspects of NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) techniques and visualisation and molecular modeling software and their application for the NMR research of biomolecules. After a short introduction to NMR spectroscopy and an instruction on the NMR spectrometer, some aspects of high resolution NMR will be illustrated by the following experiments:
- technical aspects of Fourier-transform NMR (hardware, sampling, processing)
- chemical shifts and J-couplings and the effect of structure on those
- two-dimensional NMR (COSY) The acquired knowledge will then be applied to the study of some structural properties of the protein ribonuclease A.
