Genes in color recognition
Colors are first perceived by the eye, and next interpreted and appreciated by the brain. We know that the understanding of colors is a higher cognitive brain process, but how this works is largely unknown. This project aims to identify molecular factors required for these processes. To this end advanced genetics will be applied to a family in which several members cannot understand colors (color agnosia) due to a dominant hereditary factor. Such a factor will lead the way from molecules and nerve cells towards higher cognitive processes.
