"My best ideas come when I am relaxed"

My name is Wilson dos Santos Silva and I am an Assistant professor at the AI Technology for Life group within the department of Information and Computing Science. Exploring the unknown is something that always kept me busy and led me into science. My goal is to develop sustainable and robust privacy preserving AI models. One of the main focuses of my research right now is to address privacy preserving AI for hospitals.

I like the intellectual freedom and the strong focus on multidisciplinarity

What I like most about working at the Faculty of Science is the intellectual freedom and the fact that there is a strong focus on multidisciplinarity, which allows me to develop real world solutions. I am also thankful for having had the opportunity to build my own research team. Our research is deeply rooted in fundamental AI, but driven by real-world challenges in healthcare. One of my current focus areas is ordinal learning, which is a learning paradigm. We work on an approach that leverages the natural order in data, such as disease severity levels, to improve AI robustness and performance, especially in privacy-sensitive healthcare environments.

Exploring the unknown is something that always kept me busy and led me into science. Usually, my best ideas come when I am relaxed and not focused on work, for example when I am cycling.
