Hsiang-Hsuan (Alison) Liu: working and living in Utrecht
Why did you come to Utrecht 木瓜福利影视?
鈥淚 always wanted to work in theoretical computer science, especially with online algorithms. However, there are not so many people working in this area in Taiwan. This desire drove me to pursue a dual PhD degree in the UK and further drove me to join the research team in Poland. There are so many great researchers in Europe, and important breakthroughs are happening here. At Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 especially, there is a strong group of theoretical researchers. So, when I saw the position, I thought that it was the best thing ever, and I wanted to apply.鈥
What surprised you when you first started working here?
鈥淚 find it very impressive how people at this university are always trying to do the right thing. When I was interviewed for my position, the committee explained to me that they were working with a set list of questions. They did this to make it fair. It allowed them to find the best candidate without any preconceptions or bias. I know people in the Netherlands sometimes think there are too many rules. But I think this is admirable.鈥
