"More impact by working together"
My name is Eline Hutter and I am an Assistant professor at the Institute for Sustainable and Circular Chemistry, where I work on materials for the energy transition. Education is a central part of my job at the Faculty of Science. Via a teaching grant from the faculty, I could establish a living lab, where students will test will test how solar panels will perform in the Netherlands.
We are encouraged to do fundamental research while making an impact in society
I am intrigued by the amount of energy we derive from sunlight and how we can create materials that efficiently harness this light energy. These materials can be designed to produce electricity, catalyse chemical reactions, or generate heat. However, many existing commercial materials and devices contain toxic elements or rely on scarce resources. In my research, I focus on discovering new materials that can convert light into useful forms of energy without using harmful components. I investigate how these materials interact with light using specialised tools to understand their properties and their functionality in solar panels.
My ultimate goal is to identify functional and sustainable materials that contribute to the energy transition. What I do appreciate about working at the Faculty of Science is that we are encouraged to do fundamental research while making an impact in society.
