Tanja van der Lippe appointed chair of the Social Sciences Council
Professor Tanja van der Lippe has been appointed chair of the Dutch (SWR). This also makes her the new vice-chair of the Behavioural Sciences, Social Sciences and Law Domain.
The Social Sciences Council is an advisory body of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (). The Council prepares advisory reports and plays a role in peer-reviewing KNAW advisory reports. In addition, the council organises plenary conferences and meetings between social scientists and humanities scholars from different organisations (Social Sciences and Humanities, SSH-beraad).
Tanja considers it an honour to be chairing the Social Sciences Council. ‘The SWR comprises a group of fantastic academics who are socially engaged. The council is a high-profile body, and I think we can benefit from this. These days, the need for Social Sciences is particularly strong. Challenges are to be found outside the fields of technology, climate and the environment as well, and it’s incredibly important that we understand how to deal with certain social issues such a population growth, low levels of literacy, radicalisation and the future of work. This should preferably be done in an interdisciplinary manner.’
