The Arena

Throughout this 4 episode podcast series, we look at the ways in which the university is impacting society, while simultaneously reflecting on how societal and global issues are, in turn, impacting our university.

Whether it is dealing with our colonial past, contemporary wars, or the future of AI governance,  scholars within the Faculty of Humanities, and Utrecht 木瓜福利影视 more broadly, are known to have an impact on many of the most pressing issues of our time through research, teaching, and public engagement activities.

But how do they define what research questions are relevant for society? How do they co-create knowledge with societal partners? How do they make sure this knowledge reaches a broader public? And how do they truly affect societal change?

And should scholars continue to make an impact when societal challenges are unfolding within our university? And are they equipped to do so, or should our limited time and energy be focused elsewhere amid cutbacks, student protests, and political pressure?

Produced by Impact Developers Lauren Gould and Saskia Stevens (Department of History and Art History), in this podcast host Isa Zoetbrood follows 3 researchers at the Faculty of Humanities (Utrecht 木瓜福利影视) in their impact endeavors. She also talks to many more experts on how they see the role of the university and themselves in society and how we should navigate the challenges and possibilities of academic engagement in an increasingly uncertain world.
