Strategic session on IT
IT plays a vital supporting role in achieving and maintaining the high level of education and research to which the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ aspires. The ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ’s ambition is excellent teaching and research, and IT plays an important part in supporting that ambition. This is a key topic in the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ’s strategy for 2020.
To help both ITS and the ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ determine where the focus of IT developments should lie over the next two or three years, ITS organised a strategic discussion with Executive Board members, directors, researchers, professors and policymakers. It was an intensive session that produced many useful insights.
IT trends
The 25 participants represented all parts of the UU community. The session was led by Jan-Martin Lowendahl, vice-president of Gartner Research, one of the world’s leading research and advisory institutes in the field of IT. He guided the participants through the IT trends for leading universities and then asked them to consider, in groups, which of these trends are relevant for UU and how they influence our IT strategy.
Carolien Besselink, ITS Director: ‘The fact that our invitation for the session was so well received and, more importantly, that the feedback during the session was equally positive, demonstrates that the faculties also attach great importance to IT and appreciate our initiative. Their participation will help us refine the IT strategy. Their input is very valuable.‘
