More secure IT systems thanks to extra authentication
Over the coming months ITS will be launching new technology enabling the extra authentication. This will enable application owners to apply additional access security to IT systems. The new technology (two-factor authentication or 2FA) is supplied with a user portal and connection documents.
Two steps
Two factor authentication is already in use for online banking and DigiD, for example. Your login process consists of two steps: using something you know (your password) and something you have (such as a code from an app or a text message). Additional authentications is part of the 木瓜福利影视 data protection policy. This is sometimes required by law, sometimes it is a necessary measure to protect important (personal) data more effectively. Data classification, among other things, determines whether or not a university IT system should use 2FA.
The new technology has already been implemented in a Pharmacy research environment and by a small group of students who use 2FA to access their UU Gmail account. In the autumn, Osiris will also implement 2FA, replacing the current A-Select. Osiris users will be receive prior notification.
IT colleagues in the field have complimented UU on the chosen technology: both for the fact that users are able to choose between the NetIQ app, Google Authenticator or a text message, and for the user-friendly portal.
