Course content

Mycoplasma gallisepticum (Mg) and Mycoplasma synoviae (Ms) are of clinical and economic importance for the global poultry industry. Many countries and integrations are involved in monitoring programs to control both mycoplasma species. This module provides an extensive overview of the knowledge regarding both pathogens and the factors that influence the clinical expression of the disease. It also includes the epidemiology and transmission routes, survival characteristics, and the role of the avian hosts. Much attention is given to the diagnostic aspects of both pathogens, including the available serological and molecular tests used in monitoring programs. The role of antibiotic treatments and use of live or inactivated vaccines in the control of the pathogens and the consequences for the diagnostic approaches and monitoring programs are discussed.

This module on Avian Mycoplasmosis is part of a larger program concerning Poultry Health Science, that is offered by the Veterinary Faculty of the Utrecht ľ¹Ï¸£ÀûÓ°ÊÓ and Royal GD (Deventer), the Netherlands.
