Alicia Derksen Cazorla's internship at the Museum Catherijneconvent

"My CHIP internship at the museum Catharijneconvent was a very enriching and rewarding experience, both academically and personally.

The project with which I was primarily concerned during my internship evolved around religious and spiritual art produced in France, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany during the European Interbellum years, that is from the end of the First World War in 1918 to the beginning of the Second World War in 1939. In general terms, my task entailed investigating the art scenario of the four above-mentioned countries and creating a coherent overview of their specific historical and artistic contexts, in the light of religion and spirituality.

Academically, this internship has given me the chance to see my project grow into a solid research piece that will help bring new perspectives into the field of art history. On a more personal level, being able to directly interact with the professional world and see the museum鈥檚 inner workings through different activities such as visits to the depot or helping out at the library has been very interesting and enjoyable.

In addition, working in the Research and Library department at the museum has demonstrated how much I enjoy spending time researching, thus opening up new career prospects, both in the short term and in the long term. In the short term, the topic of women artists has given me much food for thought and has pointed the way for my thesis project. In the long term, this experience has reassured me in my choice of field of study and has given me the chance to have clear ideas about what I wish to do in the future."
