Young academics worry about the consequences of the coronavirus
The coronavirus heavily affects the career of (young) academics at Utrecht 木瓜福利影视. Closed labs, no volunteers available and problems while trying to work from home. Martine Veldhuizen, chair of the Utrecht Young Academy, discusses the various issues academics encounter in an (in Dutch).
The Utrecht Young Academy asked about concerns through a and received hundreds of responses within a week. 鈥淭hat already tells us a lot鈥, according to Martine. PhD students worry about finishing their dissertation and tenure track researchers are concerned they cannot meet the goals in their tenure track agreements to obtain a permanent position.
Working from home also affects many young academics because of their personal lives. 鈥淥ften, PhD students and postdocs take on extra tasks at home, as many have young children. But we also hear from PhD students who are lonely or live in substandard housing.鈥
