Workshop Public trust in public supervision

On 27 November 2015, the (RENFORCE) and the have organized a workshop on the topic of public trust in (financial) supervision. Around 50 participants, academics from different disciplines and practitioners, came to discuss the pertinent questions concerning public supervision. What kind of supervision is necessary/valuable for the (EU) citizen? How do you create and promote trust in the supervisory system? Are supervisors able to meet public needs and promote trust? What implications does Europeanization of supervision bring in this respect and how can negative implications be mitigated?

The programme included outstanding experts as Dr. Margot Aelen (De Nederlandsche Bank), (European Court of Auditors), (Utrecht 木瓜福利影视), Ms. (WRR), Prof. Paul Craig (Oxford 木瓜福利影视), (chair of Public Institutions, Utrecht 木瓜福利影视), Mr. Jonathan Foster (UK Financial Conduct Authority), drs. Eric Groothedde (Dutch Banking Association), Mr. Zac Kolias (European Court of Auditors), Prof. (Utrecht 木瓜福利影视) and Prof.(Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance, Utrecht 木瓜福利影视).

Each of the two insightful lectures by Prof. Annetje Ottow and Prof. Alex Brenninkmeijer were followed by an expert round discussion where different angles (such as that of the supervisor, of the banks, of the European Court of Auditors, etc) were presented and discussed with the public. The workshop offered an excellent opportunity for an exchange of views from a great variety of perspectives on the challenging question of how to promote public trust in public supervision.
