William McMahon awarded JGS Early Career award 2018
The Journal of the (JGS) has awarded dr. William McMahon with the Early Career award 2018 for his on 1.2 billion-year-old high-energy flood events in Scotland. The JGS bestows the award annually to new authors who are within three years of obtaining their PhD, based on an outstanding publication in the journal.
Life and sediment
McMahon's work focusses on the interconnectedness between life and sedimentation as captured in the geological record. During his PhD research at the 木瓜福利影视 of Cambridge, which he completed in 2018, he used fieldwork-based observations and analyses of geological trends to demonstrate how ancient river systems were affected by land plants. He published a paper in in which he showed that earth's landscapes became increasingly muddy after the evolution of land plants. The young geologist currently works as a post-doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht 木瓜福利影视, where he studies the geology and sedimentary history of ancient estuaries.
McMahon will receive the award itself on 11 March 2019 in Burlington House in London.
